In our golf learning series, I have shared details of how to put and how to swing but in describing the clubs to use, I mentioned how you can utilize some to hit the farthest. So what golf club hits the farthest?

What golf club hits the farthest? It’s the Driver golf club

The longest-hitting golf clubs are typically drivers. Drivers are designed with a large clubhead and a long shaft to help generate speed and distance. The sweet spot on a driver is also much larger than other clubs, making it easier to hit the ball squarely and achieve maximum distance.

The design of the farthest-hitting club: Driver’s Design for Far-distance yards

The design of the driver is specified under the rules of golf in section 4.1 where the rules describe the specifications and rules for using different golf gear including clubs to carry during a course.

The driver is made of solid wood or metal and has a round or nearly round head, with a flat striking face. The driver also has loft, which is the angle between the clubface and the vertical plane.

The amount of loft on a driver can range from 8 to 12 degrees. The more loft, the higher the ball will fly but it will also have less distance.

The driver clubhead is the largest of all golf clubs, and it has an oval or pear-shaped head. The clubhead is also much heavier than other golf clubs to help generate speed.

The shaft of a driver is also longer than other golf clubs, typically between 43 and 46 inches (109.22 and 116.84 cm). The longer the shaft, the more speed you can generate, but it will be harder to control. If you are playing in any official tournament, you need a driver that does not exceed the 43 inches (109.22 cm) driver specified in Section 4.1 in the Rules of Golf.

The grip on a driver is also larger than other clubs to help you hold on to the club during your swing.

Why are they good at hitting far distances?

The reason drivers are good at hitting far distances is because of the design features I mentioned above. The large clubhead, long shaft, and loft all help to create speed and distance.

When you swing a driver, you should try to hit the ball on the upswing so that the ball goes straight and doesn’t slice or hook. If you hit the ball on the upswing, you will also be able to generate more speed and distance.

Remember, the key to hitting a driver long and straight is to find the sweet spot on the clubface and swing smoothly. If you can do those two things, you’ll be hitting your drives farther than ever before.

How to swing a Driver Golf Club

You need a tee to hit a driver, and you should tee the ball up so that it is level with your chin or slightly higher. Your feet should be shoulder-width apart, and your weight should be evenly distributed on both feet.

When you swing a driver, you need to use a smooth, fluid motion. You shouldn’t try to hit the ball hard; rather, you should focus on swinging smoothly and hitting the ball on the upswing.

If you swing too hard, you will likely slice or hook the ball. But if you focus on swinging smoothly and hitting the ball on the upswing, you will hit the ball straight and achieve maximum distance.

Distances Your Driver Can Get to:

The farthest distance your golf ball can travel using a driver is 350 yards.

But the average amateur golfer only hits their driver an average of 190 yards.

The average PGA Tour player hits their driver an average of 296 yards.

The table below from Destination Golf, it shows comparative stats of distances in yards that different golf clubs can give you.

From the table, it is clear that the drive is the excellent winner and hits the farthest across different skill categories from beginner, average, good, excellent and PGA Tour stats.
